Thank you to all who entered work in last year’s show. It was fabulous fun with our Moulin Rouge theme.
We had a good roll up of about 140 people to the opening night cocktail party. We broke with tradition for this show and had the cocktail party the week before the Goondiwindi P&A Society Show instead of the night before.
We are going to do this again for the 2013 show except that it will be on a Friday night instead of the Thursday so more people may come who usually have to work the next day.
Some interesting trivia for you: 76 adults entered 290 works in sections from open through to emerging artist. 194 works from over 100 artists were entered in the under 18 sections. 111 works from 82 artists were entered in the 12 years and under sections. So a grand total of 595 works in all. Outstanding effort!
All of this was squeezed into the pavilion, and beyond. Some of the children’s work is hung on movable screens and displayed in the tent adjoining the pavilion.
We had a wonderful judge in Anne Kirker, very knowledgable and experienced. We were fortunate to get her. One tip she gave me as she was judging to pass on to the artists was “the work needs to engage me, draw me back to it and get a response”. A good thing to keep in mind as you prepare your work for this years show.
Our judge for 2013 is Kyle Jenkins. Kyle is an artist and musician, has a PhD in Philosophy and is currently teaching at USQ. There is an interesting article on Kyle at – www.designmontage.com.au/2012/01/kyle-jenkins-artist/ or his site www.kyleandrewjenkins.com
Thank you and good luck for Aspects 2013.
